FAQ

  • I’ve polished my boat before myself; it looks good when I do it but then, after a few days, it just goes back to how it was.

Polishing a boat is not like polishing a car. Automotive products use silicones and other glazing products that can disguise the dull gelcoat surface but wash off or are absorbed very quickly after they are applied. Gelcoat polishing is far more time-consuming, the correct pad and correct compounds are critical to getting a result that will last. Come and see us. Even if you do it yourself we are happy to provide the advice that suits your situation. We also sell a range of Farecla polishing products in our store that you can purchase.

  • I’ve had an accident putting my boat on the trailer and now it’s badly scratched underneath. What do I do next?

Don’t worry too much; it happens to everyone once in a while. Best to bring your boat over so that we can inspect the damage and asses how to move forward. We have amazing lifting equipment on site that will allow us to lift boats up to 4.5t off trailers. If we need to lift more, we can arrange a portable crane. We also have a large portfolio of Brownell boat stands that, in a set of three, will support over 27t. These stands allow us to work under your boat while it’s off the trailer. If the damage is quite bad and you have insurance you may wish to claim the cost of repairs through your insurance company. If this is the case, just let our friendly staff know and we can take care of the entire process for you.

  • I’ve been hit by another boat and my boat is damaged. I have the details of the other boat. What do I do next?

Call us on 1300 880 334. Come past with your boat and let us asses the damage. Sometimes there can be damage that you haven’t noticed yet. Call your insurer and let them know you have been involved in an accident. They will provide you with a claim number. We will take some photos of the vessel and the damage. Using these images and the claim number you have been provided, we will prepare a quote and report for the insurer. Once we have it authorised, we will perform the repairs. (The authorisation process is normally 1-2 weeks.)

  • I want to buy an anchor winch but there are too many choices and they all seem to do the same thing. Any advice?

There are heaps of great winches on the market. There are also a few that are ... not-so-great. Most importantly, we need to make sure we can fit the winch in your anchor well. It’s one thing to buy a winch because it is designed to use with a 6m boat but it’s no good to you if it doesn’t fit in the well. You also need to consider all the other hardware you need because the winch is only one part of the puzzle. Most people will be surprised to learn that all the other components can add up to the cost of the winch. Some of the other items you may need include the deck roller, bow roller, rope and chain, hawse pipe, bearing, power cable, anchor and reinforced bulkhead. We only sell top quality winches and have a reputation as a leading installer of winches in the region with over 200 installations to date.
